The Solar Challenge Trophy was first established in 1997 and awarded that
year to Malcolm Moss for his solar powered channel crossing. (See
Challenges).
The Electric Boat Association currently awards three major
trophies to EBA members: the St Davis Trophy, the Emsworth Trophy and the
Julia Moss Trophy.
| The St Davids Trophy was donated by Fiona, Dowager
Countess of Arran, in memory of The Rt. Hon. The Viscount St. Davids. The
silver cup is awarded for ‘a significant advance in the field of
electric boating’. The St David's Trophy has been
awarded to:

The Emsworth Trophy |
The Emsworth Trophy Rear-Admiral Percy Gick presented the Emsworth Trophy to the Association
in commemoration of the 600 mile cruise the Admiral and Mrs Gick made in
1978 in their cruiser ‘Electra of Emsworth’. It is a great-crested grebe
(the EBA symbol) in limewood exquisitely carved and painted by Captain John
Powell of Emsworth.

The Emsworth Trophy is awarded to the EBA member whose boat completed the longest
journey achieved during any consecutive four month period within the
calendar year and judged according to the following schedule of points: |
-
Distance Traveled under electric only:
Rivers - 1 point per mile - Canals - 1.5 points per mile

Lock Passage:
Manned - 1 point per lock - Unmanned
- 1.5 points per lock
The points
calculated as above will be multiplied by the following factor:
An electric boat which draws its energy from solar power only x 2.5
Batteries charged up from shore based mains supply x 2.0
On-board internal combustion engine x 1.0
- The amount of IC
fuel bought should be recorded for information purposes
- These rules were
first used for the calendar year 2000 and 2001 and may
be amended for
future years in the light of experience gained.
- Notification of
proposed entry for the Challenge should be sent to the
Secretary, EBA at least three weeks before the start of the journey,
giving
details of boat, propulsion system and outlining proposed routes
- The decision of
the judging committee is final.

The Julia Moss Trophy |
The Julia Moss Trophy is awarded for
a significant contribution to the development of solar boating. This new trophy has been
donated by Malcolm Moss in memory of his late wife Julia and is awarded
specifically for solar cruises, innovations or achievements for solar
powered electric boating. The Julia Moss
Trophy has been awarded to:

| The Mansura
Trophy, launched in February 2007, is for innovation in the
design, development and operation of boats with hybrid or all
electric propulsion systems. The bronze trophy, depicting the tiller
head of the 1912 hybrid motor yacht Mansura, was donated by
Julian Delmar-Morgan, grandson of the yacht's designer and owner,
and David Barratt. |

promoting and organising the international competition with the
support of the RYA and The Green Blue, a joint environmental

The Explorer Trophy.
This award has been proposed by the Thames Electric Launch
Company to encourage electric boaters to visit new waterways and the trophy
will be given to the person who can prove they have visited the most
